    Nonplus+ comp “Think and Change”

Today marks the release of the highly anticipated Nonplus+ compilation called “Think and Change”. Curated by label-head Boddika “Think and Change” includes some heavyweight tunes that we’ve been teased with over and over the last months. Including Joy O’s BRTHDTT (but only on the vinyl release) and my personal favorite Fourt Tet’s “For These Times”. The limited vinyl now available (eg at Surus) as well as the digital download.

    Modern Midi Classics

A little anachronistic time-travel. Thanks RBMA for this.

    inc. - No World

There are two slow-jam, soulful r’n’b records I’m highly anticipating right now, one of them is the debut release by LA-based duo inc.

Consisting of Daniel and Andrew Aged, the two brothers emerged in 2010 as Teen Inc. and had some tracks out here and there, but never really fully came through. After a lot of work, “No World” saw it international release yesterday.

I think they achieve quite a good balance between minimalistic alt-r’n’b approaches and melodic playfulness of classic r’n’b and funk releases. “No World” is both mesmerizing and energetic; speaks with a chique sadness without getting depressing and is one of those records that will float you through your afternoon without you ever noticing it.

BB #543 | Joy O | Big Room Tech House DJ Tool - Tip! | Nonplus
——
OK, we’re seeing a pattern emerge here. Every time Joy Orbison saturates the market with one of his ‘will they ever get a release?’ bits, we try and avoid rising to the hype. We hold on, thinking we won’t love it. But we always do.
LISTEN | BUY Forthcoming 25/02/2013

So looking forward to this!

    BadBadNotGood - Flashing Lights/UVM

I’ve been a fan of BadBadNotGood for quite some time now. Their interpretations of hip-hop- and electronic hits in a jazzy instrumental fashion (“post-bop”, a genre to remember!) are always feels so fresh and oh-so avantgarde. After they always gave out their producing for pay-what-you-want on bandcamp, they now have a limited 12” out on Innovative Leasure featuring their cover of Kanye’s “Flashing Lights” and one of their originals (I think) “UVM”. Check out the track below, buy the 12” and download all their stuff on bandcamp. Also check out their fantastic medley of the “Zelda: Ocarina of Time” soundtrack.
